CSBA’s Directors-at-Large
We are your Directors-at-Large. We are elected by the CSBA Delegate Assembly to represent our different constituencies on the Board of Directors and at CSBA. We want to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves. DALs will contribute occasional columns to keep members informed.

I was elected as CSBA Director-at-Large, Asian Pacific Islander (API) in December 2020 after serving as a CSBA Delegate for three years. I’m a board member with the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District in San Mateo County, a K-8 district with about 4,000 students. As the vice-president of the API School Board Members Association, I co-led the statewide campaign to ensure an inclusive AAPI unit in the Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum. As the DAL/API, my goal is to be the voice of the AAPI students and community in CSBA Board of Director meetings, help educate board members across the state on issues impacting the AAPI community, and champion the importance of an inclusive curriculum in improving student outcomes.

My belief in and commitment to every child is my MANTRA! I have served on the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District board for the past 15 years. I have served as a teacher, counselor, principal, parent, grandparent and now a retiree. My educational journey began at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Little Rock, Arkansas, and continued at the University of San Francisco, where I received a masters in counseling and doctorate in organizational leadership and management with an emphasis in multicultural education. A few of my community involvement activities and professional affiliations include the NAACP, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Monterey County Office of Education County School Boards Association, and the Board of Governors for the California Association Black School Educators. I am a Masters in Governance graduate and have served on numerous CSBA committees. I am committed, without reservation, to continue to use my knowledge, integrity, dedication and combined years of public school experience with proven leadership skills to serve all children during this critical time in education. I was elected to the CSBA Director-at-Large, County position in December 2021 and have been a trustee with the Ventura County Board of Education since 2018. My last role before retiring from business was as senior director of operational excellence and strategy for a large biotech firm. Currently, I am chair of the Social Justice Fund for Ventura County, which supports emerging leaders from marginalized communities. Education is key to giving students a fighting chance to pursue their goals and become productive citizens. My focus is to ensure all students have effective learning pathways suited to their needs. Whether it is students in career education, students with disabilities, foster children or kids in court schools, we need to ensure we are providing children with an enriching education and fulfilling career.
Please feel free to contact any of the Directors-at-Large if you have any questions or concerns, or if you want to share successful initiatives taking place in your district or county office of education.
